The fact that the wingers getting so amped up about this movie are the same ones who, for centuries, have had pictures of a white Jesus plastered all over their homes and places of worship, is peak of comedy that just writes itself. The absurdity is beyond measure.

Thanks for this. It's worth emphasizing this point:

"In the late Bronze Age, you would have been significantly more likely to encounter Black Africans (referred to by later Greeks as Aithiopes or Ethiopians) than Nordics (Northern/Scandinavian Europeans) in Greek ports like Mycenae, Pylos, Tiryns or Pleuron. As for inland Sparta in this era, it had diplomatic relations with Egypt which employed Black Africans in its administrative, diplomatic, and military ranks."

Not only were Greeks of that era significantly more likely to encounter Africans than Scandinavians/northern Europeans, this had been true for thousands of years. In other words, for several times longer than trade and migration have been a regular feature of the Atlantic world.

Those conservatives and reactionaries who are upset by Nolan's casting decisions are heavily invested in the notion that Romans and Greeks are the source/origin of "western civilization".. The fact that many of those Romans and Greeks looked to Egypt (i.e., Africa) as a source of wisdom and civilization is profoundly disturbing to their worldview.
